Academic Excellence

Academic ExcellenceNorth Christian Elementary School exists to create a Christ-centered environment in which we provide students with an academic curriculum competitve with that available in public schools, and also incorporate Bible studies and spiritual development.  The instructional programs used at NCES are teacher directed and supported by instructional materials that are suitable for a Christian school as determined by the school's Leadership Team, which includes a pastor from our sponsor church, North Parkersburg Baptist Church.  Core academics are enhanced with a Bible curriculum: Positive Action for Christ (http://www.positiveaction.org/), a Technology curriculum:  K to the 8th Power (http://www.kto8.com/), and additional classes in music and physical education. Most classrooms have interactive whiteboards and the school has a mobile lab with 20 individual net-book computers.

NCES' Commitment to Academic Excellence

30 years of comparative data has shown that students in Christian schools score above the national average at every grade level.  North Christian Elementary School students exemplify those findings.  NCES uses the standardized test measures recommended by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).  2011 SAT 10 test results reported our students well above the national average in both Reading and Mathematics at every grade level; often one to two years above typical students of the same age level.

Class size is limited to ensure a quality teacher-to-student ratio.  We have an intervention teacher on staff who supports teachers in their commitment to help every child achieve academically. We also arrange for speech and gifted services for students who qualify.
